I went to Disneyland in March, partly to visit the theme park I love again, but also to take photos of my personal favorite ride at the park, The Haunted Mansion. This classic ride means so much to me. The Haunted Mansion not only has a fantastic facade, that is also the building that you first walk into to board the stretching portrait rooms. But the ride also has very compelling original characters, wonderful set-dressing, and old, mind-blowing simple theatrical tricks that it a timeless classic.
I took several photos of the Mansion both during the day and night as I had it as my next piece in mind. I really wanted to take a break from my initial idea of doing strictly European architecture and incorporate similar American architecture. As much as I love the Mansion’s facade during the day, it is extra special at night with the spookier lighting. I held a poll for close friends on my Instagram to see which photo they liked of the Mansion the most that I took. And they overwhelmingly chose the photo that this art was based on.
