“The Exploding Mind of the Mad King” is a portrait of President Donald Trump with his mind “exploding,” losing his infamous toupee. Max thought of the idea in the midst of the over three week government shutdown, the longest shutdown in history. The idea behind this painting is to show how “unfit” Trump is to be president and his lack of making cohesive decisions in the Oval Office. While congress is trying to reopen the government, Trump win’t Reopen the government until he gets his border wall that he wants. But 800,000 federal workers have been missing paychecks for three weeks, making Trump look “out of his mind” and like someone who can’t “get it together” as president. The portrait of Trump was drawn in black and white graphite pencil. The “explosion” coming out of his head was drawn with a mixture of watercolor and acrylic paints. At the center of the painting, the colored explosions go up from his head and explode into paint splatters or different colors. The reason for the different styles was to draw a great contrast between Trump and the explosion. While the portrait of him looks “normal,” the explosion brings a twist and makes it looks like an explosion from the Mind. The style was made to look a little like the Flying piece.
