In 2023, I had the huge honor of getting to design a bus wrap for TriMet LIFT (bus for those with disabilities) in Portland, Oregon to honor disability pride month in collaboration with North Pole Studio. As a huge Beatles’ fan, some inspiration came from the Magical Mystery Tour bus. I did rainbow colored-portraits of celebrities, activists, artists, and other important figures who were disabled or neurodivergent and made important contributions to the world. The rainbow color represents “hope,” and the wide and exciting spectrum that the neurodiverse and disabled community falls along. The butterflies represent the “change” and “difference” in those of us who are neurodivergent and the rainbow in the background symbolizes the beauty of neurodiversity as well as the Spectrum. My initial approach to the design was to challenge the word “disability.” However, as someone who is autistic, some on the spectrum identify as having a disability while others don’t. So I want to respect how people personally identify. Portraits on the bus include climate activist Greta Thunberg, YouTuber and blindness advocate Molly Burke, artist Stephen Wiltshire, and autism advocate and slaughterhouse designer Temple Grandin. I did three interviews with KGW regarding my TriMet bus wrap. I did an interview in November 2023 at North Pole Studio, was featured in an ad in March 2024 at TriMet’s bus lot in Beaverton, OR, and did an interview with Hello Rose City in April 2024.
