To celebrate Autism Acceptance Month, I drew a portrait of Temple Grandin with a message. Temple Grandin is a famous speaker and slaughterhouse designer who has given TED talks. She is a neurodivergent icon. The message of the portrait of Grandin is to promote autism ACCEPTANCE, not autism “awareness.” The infinity sign pattern on a rainbow gradient behind her surrounded by butterflies represents neurodiversity. The “spectrum” of colors represents the autism spectrum and how we must honor those with autism and not treat it like it is a “disability” or “disease.”
