“Don’t Assume Our Pronouns,” is a portrait of Stonewall activist, Sylvia Rivera, in support of LGBTQ rights. The aim of this portrait is to simply ask and not assume what someone’s pronouns are. Misgendering is a form of harassment. I was inspired to create this when one of my co-workers vented to me because they were constantly being misgendered. There were some people I noticed at work who were intentionally misgendering them. Sylvia Rivera was chosen since she was an early transgender activist in the late 1960’s/ early 1970’s and she is a big reason why we have come so far along in supporting LGBT rights.
