“Confusion” is a graphite drawing inspired by Max’s feeling “confused.” For the last two weeks, Max had been thinking of a new part time job in political activism. Max, who is already a freelance web designer, didn’t want to stop designing websites. He wasn’t sure. He represented this intense internal feeling visually with “Confusion.” The black and white graphite drawing is represents Max’s feeling insecure and not sure about what’s next. One of the first things that came to Max’s mind while drawing this was “The Twilight Zone.” The clock, office door, and eyeball are all references to the original Twilight Zone’s intro. The “fight the power” silhouette on the 13 hour clock was inspired both by politics and Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction. The rocket, moon, and buddha were added to represent the “happy thought tangents” aside from the “nightmarish” theme of the painting, therefore adding into the “confusion.”
