“A-R-E-T-H-A” is Max’s tribute to the late soul singer, Aretha Franklin. The piece’s title is made to resemble Aretha’s most famous song, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T.” Max thought of Laura and Mark when creating this piece. Therefore, he mimicked the multi-color, blue background style of “Laura and Mark” for “A-R-E-T-H-A.” One soulful, beautiful image of Aretha Franklin from 1968 stood out to Max. Max used that photo as a basis for the painting. Many have admired the “soulfulness” of this painting and therefore, this piece was purchased just weeks after it was painted. It’s currently the most “liked” piece on Surrebral’s instagram today.
