As someone who is autistic, I was really offended by what Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr (RFK Jr) said about autism. He is trying to take us back to eugenics. He has said that “vaccines,” “tylenol,” and “circumcision” all caused autism. None of these theories were proven true. Unfortunately, RFK Jr has long been an anti vaxxer, just like President Trump. What is really offensive to my community is how RFK Jr is sending the message that autism is worse than deadly diseases, like Measles and pneumonia. Not only is that extremely offensive, but also dangerous. I was interviewed by my aunt about RFK Jr’s harmful words, which is on The Daily Beast. As a result of RFK Jr’s messaging, I was inspired to create art of him as “Satan,” which was also done perfectly in time for Halloween. The idea initially came during a community meeting that I had with my studio, North Pole. We all came up with ideas/ mini art ideas of how we are feeling about issues in the world. I drew a sketch of RFK as “Satan” saying “don’t take your medical advice from me.” This evolved into a full-out diabolical image of RFK Jr as the devil.
