“Freddie” is a portrait of Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the band, Queen. This portrait was painted and drawn in the style of A-R-E-T-H-A. Max was inspired to create this piece after watching the film, Bohemian Rhapsody And enjoying Rami Malek’s performance as the flamboyant lead singer of Queen. Max was particularly inspired by the film’s Bohemian Rhapsody (the song) recording scene, based off both the album cover of Queen II and the song’s music video. After watching the film, Max immediately thought of the idea of creating a Queen inspired piece. Initially, Max intended to include all four members of the band based off the album cover of Queen II with Freddie as well as Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon. However, due to the size of the paper, Max realized he couldn’t fit Brian May, pictured above Mercury in the original photo. So then Max decided to just include Freddie Mercury alone.
