“Alien Camp” is an acrylic painting Max created after taking a hiking trip to Runyon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles. On the hike, Max fell in love with an Air BN’B trailer as part of Runyon Ranch. Max loved the retro sci-fi look of the trailer and the overgrown cacti surrounding it. As a result, Max became fixated, brought his sketching supplies to sketch it, and afterwards took photos on his iPad while there. Afterward, Max decided to turn the trailer into an Alien camping ship docked on a desert planet. While creating the painting, Max shared his process on Instagram- which took about a week and a half. First, Max sketched the trailer with the pig-like humanoid alien roasting marshmallows in front with big rocks in the background in pencil. Then, he colored and brushed it in with watercolor pencils. Inspiration from the “Galactic Night on Vasquez Rocks” painting was added in the sky and background rocks. And then went over the watercolor with acrylic to make the colors “pop.” You may also buy “Alien Camp” on the new SURREBRAL store by clicking the link below!
