“Madame Speaker” is a piece Max thought of after Nancy Pelosi was once again elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives. After watching the video of the swearing in of the 116th congress, Max noted Pelosi’s expressions holding her gavel, upon winning her speakership. As a result, Max decided to create a portrait of Pelosi holding the gavel in the air in pride. Seeing her with the gavel makes her look like a powerful female force, ready to take on Trump! Max wanted to catch her expressions, and felt the best way to do so was to style the painting like A-R-E-T-H-A, shaded in three colors.
