“Alien Cave” is amongst the most unique of Surrebral’s art pieces. It went through an evolution of conceptual changes. Inspired after visiting a Psychedelic Walk-In Installation, Max wanted to make a walkthrough installation of his own themed to an “Alien Cave.” The initial idea was for it to be a mobile installation piece that would be at different shows. He created a 7-foot cardboard structure for it so it could easily move. However, the cardboard structure fell days into starting the project. Instead of fixing the structure, Max decided to create a new “Alien Cave”, a smaller blacklight cardboard diorama. He got the idea from using blacklight paint from previous pieces, “In a Spacy Mood,” and “Third Eye.” He used some of the cardboard from the larger structure to create the diorama. This diorama was inspired by Max’s visit to Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough. The diorama is a cut out astronaut, with a blacklight helmet in front of a blacklight-painted Alien Cave, separated by cardboard framing to create a 3-D effect.
